Lady of Arcana

Wings and eyes! I’ve been working on this model from Creature Caster for the last few weeks. I have used it as an opportunity to work with colors that I don’t usually get to paint with, especially the oranges and the greys. Right now I like how it pops, however I think I can push the highlights even further, especially with the wings. Pushing color is definitely something that gets me out of my comfort zone, I just psyche myself out from really creating contrast. I can’t help but go back and blend out drastic transitions.

Case in point, take a look at the darker segments of the orange where I have pushed through with too much dark and caused a weird transition between the blue feathers. I think I am going to leave this one on the shelf for a bit and just stare at it and see if inspiration hits. I am completely stumped as to what colors to put on the scepter. Although it’s tempting, I don’t think I want it to be the focal point, so I won’t make it brighter than the body. Maybe a black?

I am also tossing around some new ideas for the eyes on the shoulders. A friend recommended I take a look at Full Metal Alchemist eyes, since the way they are right now you can’t see the pupils when you look at the figure straight on. A non traditional pupil shape could allow it to wrap around and be seen from the front. If you have any ideas or recommendations feel free to post them in the comments. I will be sure to update in a few weeks when I circle back around to her.
