I’ve been kind of at a loss this week as to what to write because that post I made last week about the new Lady Custodes got quite a bit of attention and I wasn’t sure how to follow it up. For now we will get back to our regularly scheduled programing with a new model I finished recently that I am very proud of. To date this is up there with the Lady of Arcana as one of the best things I’ve ever painted. It was a 3D print I did from LootStudios and I just love everything about it.
The figure itself was the first thing that caught my attention, I loved the idea of this merchant riding a frog and peddling his wares. They actually have it listed as a Tanuki which is supposed to be a racoon but I kept seeing it as a fox in my mind. This was exclusively painted with Reaper paints and as a result, even though it took quite a few layers, the colors really pop. I have found myself moving away from Reapers recently just because of how thin they are. I have been trying out Pro-Acryl paints and liking them a lot. I will probably use those mainly going forward and then lean on the Reaper paints for bright highlights.
I think I nailed the fox color scheme. And this is the first time I think I have gotten the proper color effect on smoke. I stuck to grey even though part of me wanted to try to throw some orange or red OSL lighting in there. Maybe on the next one. I’m working on a Skaven Army which should give me plenty of opportunities for green backlit smoke. Shoutout to Vince Vinturella for his smoke tutorial on Youtube which is what helped me get that color.
So there you go. Happy fox demon merchant. Now I just need to figure out what kind of campaign I am going to work it into. Also she needs a name, so if you have a suggestion for one send it my way. I will show off the Skaven I mentioned earlier next week. Take care!
